Ebooks are the perfect items to sell on eBay. They have none of the drawbacks of physical products. There is no up front inventory cost, there are no storage problems or storage costs, there is no shelf life to worry about, they won’t go out of style every spring and fall, you can sell as many as you want and will never run out and you never have to ship ebooks.
Sounds like an unbeatable combination, the perfect selling environment and the perfect item to sell. Everyone should be making a killing! If that’s the case, why do so many ebook sellers give up after only a short while of selling ebooks on eBay? What are they doing wrong?
Sellers who throw in the towel because they are not making a profit, have made the mistake of not thinking through a complete marketing plan. They have only put into place the very first part of a successful plan and then they stop. They have not thought their strategy through to the end goal.
There is a saying that you hear all the time while learning how to start or improve a business. That saying is “If you fail to plan, then you are planning to fail.” As common and overused as that phrase is, it is absolutely true. That is why most unsuccessful ebook sellers on eBay quit.
No one makes money selling 99 cent ebooks. The economics are against it. They stop after the 99 cent sale. If they stop there, then there is no way they can keep going.
What they have failed to do is take the next steps. The next part of the 99 cent sale is to turn that into a ten dollar and ninety nine cent sale. If you can do that on every sale, now you are going to start showing a profit.
