Waterproof Your Asphalt Driveways Before It Causes Damage

Have you ever went past a really beautiful house and then noticed what ugly shape the driveway was in? The one thing worse than seeing someone else’s driveway looking like this, is if it is your home’s driveway that appears has a bad appearance.
It is an undeniable fact that if you place a home on the market to sale, an ugly driveway might be a drawback. It could be one of the first spots that someone will pay attention to as they drive up to a residence.
If you are fortunate and have a driveway that is in great standing, according to where you live, it might not remain that way. People who live in places that are subject to hard winters or a lot of rain will likely have the most severe driveway issues.
There are a number of processes that will help prevent your driveway from cracking, chipping, and breaking apart. Reseal a driveway prior to cracks starting or when the dark black color begins to turn gray.
Once the cracks are present, water flows into and beneath the driveway’s surface. When it freezes, it will expand and cause additional cracking. Resealing your asphalt driveway is an essential job, but may be a job you can do on your own.
If your driveway might have cracks already, this is something you can do. Clean out the bottom of the crack so it is made wider at the base than at the top surface of the crack. When you have deep cracks, you could need to place sand or backer rod crack filler first.
Backer rod is more moisture resistant crack filler. Fill the crack to within an inch of the top of the surface. Now you are prepared to use regular crack filler. These fillers can be bought in a liquid form that can be poured into the cracks or you can get a tube of denser solution that is applied with a caulking gun. After the filler is put in, use a piece of wood or trowel to smooth over the surface.
Be sure you can have a few dry days before you start the resealing procedure. Wash down the driveway all over with an asphalt cleaning product. This solution will take off oil spills that could sooner or later create soft spots from the petroleum content. Permit it to dry thoroughly. The tools you will use to put on the sealer you have purchased are just the same as tools used for putting on paint.
A long roller handle and a long nap roller sleeve will work well or you could use a large squeegee. A paint brush may be used to get spots that are hard to cover easily, like the rims.
Make sure to seal all spots thoroughly and always use the directions to the letter. This should keep your driveway safe from cracking and water devastation for the amount of time permitted by the repair materials you chose.
