A Simple Way To Do Water Damage Restoration
Topics: A, Simple, Way, To, Do, Water, Damage, Restoration
Flood in a home could be overwhelming in every way. The pain of seeing your house in water could be really defeating. The only possible solution after this type of crisis is to do water damage restoration for your entire house. The process of drying your house and restoring it would probably take longer than expected but this step is necessary for the safety of everyone living in your house.
There is also the option to hire water damage restoration specialists. This group has all the necessary tools to get rid of all the water and take care of all your damaged items. But if you prefer to do the cleaning yourself, it is necessary to learn how to properly execute water damage restoration.
Before starting with the water damage restoration process, it is advisable to take some safety measures. Keep in mind that while salvaging your home and properties is important your health should be your priority.
Turn off the power switch in the fuse box of the house or you might get electrocuted. Also, close any gas appliances you might have. When you are really sure that your electricity had been cut off and the gas is safe, then you can proceed with the cleaning.
The key to the success of water damage restoration is speed. How fast you can take the water out from the house or basement? The faster you act to solve the problem, the easier you can deal with the cleaning. Quickly remove the water from places where it hit the house. Use a sump pump to take out the water.
Save your documents, photographs, paintings and all paper base items as gently as you can and remove all traces of water. Use paper towel to help these dry off fast when doing water damage restoration. Dry these items by air-drying, freeze drying and dehumidifying.
With air drying, you can put the items outside for the sun to naturally dry or use a fan to make drying faster. When you use freeze drying, you can put your items in a zip lock plastic bag and put your items inside a freezer. This will stop the water from spreading and will dry the paper faster. With the dehumidifying process, you will use a dehumidifier and simply put the items in a room and let the dehumidifier do the process of drying for you.
Try to save the remaining items you think you can still salvage and throw away items that cannot. Clean the remaining items using soap and water and a disinfectant. Dry these well after disinfecting.
Also, clean the walls, floors and carpet using soap and water. Vacuum the excess water on those areas. Water damage restoration with carpets is a different issue and needs special care when handling them.
The most important thing when doing water damage restoration on your own is not to panic in time of crisis. Although, it is better said than done, the more you panic the less chance of salvaging your home from that dreadful water flow.
