If we sit back for a moment and try to analyze our lives, there are so many things that we might want to improve. The nature of our being has an infinite desire to improve and increase. There simply isn’t enough time in which to do this. What should we do?
Should we limit our progress or improvement simply to remove the feelings of inability? Should we become the type of workaholic that finds himself with a heart condition at forty? Or do we pace ourselves, set priorities and act strategically?
Limiting progress refers to the halt of ambition and the personal impeding of the will to improve. It occurs when one makes a conscious decision that they cannot do all that they wish to do with their lives, and thus they choose to not do much of what they really want at all.
There are so many who as children feel the wonder of the universe and desire to become astronauts, scholars, even successful businessmen. What happens to their dreams?
It occurs to me that as a child grows he emerges in a world of shattered dreams. There are so many who have already sacrificed what they wanted most for the things that will help them survive for the moment.
Many land a great bit of employment during their college career and decide to put off school in order to take that employment. They lose so many opportunities for higher success because something in the moment seems so appealing and sustaining.
Is there a way to remedy low vision and cheap dreaming? Of course there is. The way out of this is a decision to accept that we cannot do everything we want with the time that we have, but we need to set a standard that is realistic based on the time that we have and the priorities in our life.
For each person these priorities will be different. Some focus more on their families and will therefore find a way to accomplish their other dreams by setting aside a small amount of time each day to doing what they need to. They may even involve their family in accomplishing this dream.
Others may face the issue of trying to work while going through school. The problems of time conflict can be painful, and both can be lots of work. Whatever your challenges, there will always be a way to accomplish your dreams if you are willing to make the sacrifice.
