What Is Domain Parking?

There are always new and interesting ways to make money online, but one of my favorite ways is domain or monetization parking. Don’t get this confused with the domain parking that you use with your registrar to park your domain though. These are two different processes in which domain owners use. Domain parking used as a means to make money is set up with a domain parking site which allows you to make money off of your domain name. This can be one of the most lucrative and interesting ways to make actual cash, not just cash in hand but possible residual cash which is even better in my opinion.

Now there are tons of different sites online that are designed to allow you to make money, but that doesn’t mean all of these sites are scam free, nor does it mean they all work the same way, after all the Internet just wouldn’t be the Internet if you didn’t have to fish out the bad ones from the good ones or the good ones from the better ones for that matter!

The process in its own its pretty simple and straightforward, sign up, park, make money. However, if you take the time to understand this process just a little more than you will see it’s not really as easy as 1-2-3, in fact there’s a whole ‘nother world to the domain parking industry that most people don’t even know about.

I don’t know maybe its just me but, if I’m making money from a site or a program I like to understand the inner workings in hopes that I can make even more money than I already am. I joined up with a parking program a few years back and was making an easy $7k every single month, of course this was before rules were changed, but nonetheless people are still making good money just the same.

Alright so obviously the most important part of these programs is to have a domain, it doesn’t matter if you have one or one million you can park them all, park them at different sites, or just part a few here and there, as long as you have a domain name that has natural keywords, has minimal characters, and has about 2-3 words in the name, your set for life.

Now if you have a domain that is really long, doesn’t really have any keywords, and has about 5 words, you still can park it but you have a better chance if you follow the first set of guidelines I listed. After you figure out what domains you want to use you will be visiting different sites to find the best one for you, as said earlier there are dozens upon dozens of these sites out there. I like to try to stick with some of the bigger names of the industry and like to stick with sites that offer 80% or more with the revenue share (your share).

If you go any lower it seems that you really don’t end up making a whole lot of cash sadly. Reviews for domain parking sites can be found on search engines, forums, message boards and other forms of content such as websites and articles.

After you figure out what program you want to go with the next thing you’re going to be doing is getting the DNS (domain name servers) from the parking place and changing the DNS on the domain at your registrar. Once you do that the fun begins to start. Now you get to sign into your account, upload your domains (bulk or single) and then you get to customize the domains with colors, themes, templates and keywords.

After that your pretty much done with the entire “working” process, now all you need to do is register your domain with a few search engines, get some backlinks going, some PPC traffic, etc. *** Always follow guidelines and TOS or your account could be terminated and it doesn’t matter if you have 35cents or $35,000 owed to you. Break the rules and your done. No second chances here! Arbitrage is no longer allowed, this process allowed you to buy traffic, have them visit your site and do searches. Now that arb is no longer allowed if you are found breaking this rule you will be “retired” from the site.

When people visit your site (on account of their own free will) they will find ads on your site which are placed there by feeds from sites like Google, Yahoo and Ask. They can either make a search in the search box and get a result for what they are searching for, or they can pick a keyword from the main page (these are keywords you picked for the most part) click the phrase, and get results. In either matter you will make X amount of dollars or cents per click/search.

Sometimes it might be .35 cents per click, other times it will be $3.00 it really depends on how much the bidded keyword on your page is worth (which is paid for by advertisers). I know, I know. 35cents!?! That’s not a lot! You are right it’s not. But if you figure it out this way it will seem a little better. Take 35cents time 5,000 clicks that right there is $1,750. Better? Now this just accounts for the clicks and searches you got for 35cents, what about the others you got for lower or for higher? You could potentially get 5000 clicks or search for month and still make anywhere from $1500-$2000.

Obviously these numbers depend on which site you join, how high the rev share is, and all the additional stats but at least now you get the gist of how all of this works and why a lot of people are getting into this. Just to tingle your taste buds a little more take .35cents times 5000 clicks or searches x the amount of domains you have parked! Remember, you can park as little or as many domains as you want, it’s a choice you have.

Personally I always enjoyed spreading mine out to see where I made the most money and then grouped my domains together by niche or by topic and parked them in the spot they were making me the most amount of money! Pretty interesting stuff once you get down and dirty, isn’t it? Well it will be even more interesting once you start making some d-o-u-g-h!
