So how do you rank high in search engines without using these previously successful methods? If you have lots of money you can buy your way in. You can bid on keywords and search terms, and pay Google, Yahoo, or another directory every time someone clicks on your paid link.
Since most of us don’t have that kind of money, let’s consider another method: Almost-free advertising. Almost-free advertising is a form of website promotion that often requires a lot of time, but requires little or no money.
One of the best ways to promote your site and yourself is to write about something you know about or are interested in. You don’t have to be a literary scholar or a journalism graduate to get started. Start by writing a short 400 – 600 word article in an area of interest to you. This will potentially be read by thousands of people, so you should check your facts, spelling, and grammar before publishing it.
Once your article is ready to publish, you can submit it, for free, to a number of article directories on the web. After your article is approved, it will be published in these directories. So how does this increase traffic to your website? You place a link to your website in the “About the Author” section of the article. Now you have an unpaid, but high-quality link to your website which a visitor or a search engine can follow.
The more times you do this, the more targeted links you have pointing to your website. This helps increase your position in search engine results, and is completely acceptable to them. The key is to get many quality articles published in high-traffic directories. The higher the Google Page Rank of the directories linking to you, the higher your total page rank becomes.
This is a much better method for gaining links to your site, than using “link farms” and automatic link generating systems. These methods can often be detected by the search engines which treat them as spam. By publishing your own articles, you are positioning yourself as an expert in your field, and adding unique content to the web – all while increasing targeted traffic to your website.
